MARYSVILLE — The remarkably deep Tomahawk girls golf team placed a close third in divisionals May 12, qualifying all six varsity players for the two-day district meet at Everett Golf and Country Club May 18 and 19.

With 226 points, the M-P girls just trailed second-place Snohomish’s 228 Stableford points while Everett won the meet with 254 points. The league rivals produced the meet’s medalists, Snohomish’s Emily Guthrie and Everett’s Stephanie Soelling, who finished the 18 hole Cedarcrest Golf Course with 61 Stableford points.

Tomahawk sophomore Abby Beauchamp led the M-P effort with 50 points, finishing sixth in the tournament and covering the par 72 course in 92 strokes. She was followed by senior Taylor Ashton’s 49 points.

Playing in the five slot, “Taylor Ashton played the best round of her life,” said M-P coach Jaci Legore Hodgins. The senior placed seventh, finishing in 96 strokes.

“She shot 53 strokes on the front and 43 on the back,” her coach added. “This tells you alot about her mental game. She didn’t let anything get to her and just played golf.”

Senior Sara Rott, who leads the team with the best score throughout the league matches, came in with 47 Stableford points and will golf No. 1 for the Tomahawks at districts.

Rounding out the district golf team will be senior Brielle Saunders, junior Stasia Ashley and sophomore Kelsey Colmore.

The top 15 golfers from the district tournament qualify for the state tournament at Sun Willow Golf Course in Pasco.

“This team is so close and competitive with how they score. Any of them and all of them are capable of having an outstanding two-day district competition,” Legore Hodgins said.

With a score of 32 points over 18 holes, junior Tiffany Daggett will represent Arlington at the state-qualifying tournament.
