Distance has continued to prove a strength to Lakewood, with senior Lacey Nation and junior Taylor Guske winning their respective 3,200-meter races. Senior Spencer Hulslander was a winner in the pole vault, clearing 13-0, for the third win.

The Cougar boys placed second to King’s, while the girls placed fourth, putting them in the top half of the league.

Lakewood had another dozen finishes at second and third place. All three Lakewood champions qualified for districts in another event, with Guske and Nation both going on to the district meet at Bellingham’s Civic Stadium in the 1,600. Hulslander had a 6-0 jump in the high jump to place third there.

Senior Payden Butler was a double finalist, placing second in the javelin at 171-10 and third in the pole vault, where he cleared 12-6. Likewise, senior Nik Borisov, who placed third in the boys 110 and 300 hurdles in prelims, placed third and fourth respectively in finals.

Senior Devon Smith, a state qualifier last year in the boys 200 and 400, will continue on in both events this season, placing second in the 400 and fourth in the 200 out of league finals.

Back on the girls side, sophomore Charnie Dondrea pulled out a personal best in the high jump, clearing 5-0 to place second in the event. Senior Samantha Warren tied her best in the pole vault from two weeks earlier, clearing 8-6 to also finish in second place.

Senior Cameron Hess placed third in the discus and fourth in the javelin, while the boys 4×100 relay of Borisov, Smith, Sam Johnston and Tyler Pouley placed second. The boys 4×400 relay of Nick Howe, Cameron Jones, James Mattson and Chad Skiles also placed second. The top eight from leagues qualified for the district meet.
