Though the Strawberry Festival celebrates the berrys consumption in many forms chocolate-covered, cheesecake and fruit salad, among others the fitness-minded berry-lover has several Festival-endorsed means of compensating for overcompensating on strawberries.

The Lakewood Cougar boys basketball team took to the court for the first time this season against an experienced Sedro-Woolley side. With six sophomores making their first appearance on the varsity the Cougars showed a bit of inexperience, but overall they looked very good and should be a competitive team this season. Unfortunately, Sedro put together a big third quarter and pulled away enough to hold off the upstart Cougars 71-65.
Watching high school basketball is one of the finer pleasures in life. Witnessing up-and-coming athletes competing at a high level in a tense environment makes me wonder what could be better?
With the holidays limiting wrestlers access to practice, Lakewood put up its best eligible team against Cavalero and Lake Stevens junior varsity Nov. 29, falling in a close match to the south county wrestling stronghold, 48-39.
