MARYSVILLE Nine different players scored as the Tomahawk girls defeated Mountlake Terrace 57-44 to remain unbeaten early in their schedule.
M-P forward Britt Harris proved a fixture under the basket, grabbing 11 rebounds on the way to her second double-double in as many games. She and senior Jessica Masters led the offense with 13 points each. Senior Anna West also broke into double digits with a 10-point game.
The Tomahawks played a 29-point first quarter, thanks in large part to Harris 12 points in the period. The junior scored eight points back-to-back for the Tommies, interrupted only briefly by a three-pointer from Hawks guard Corinne Pingul.
M-P coach Julie Martin praised Harris effort for the forwards 32 points and 28 boards two games into the season.
Britt has really just stepped it up over the last two games. Shes one of the ones who goes at it all the time, Martin said. When shes not on the court, we feel it.
While the Tommies failed to muster the same fireworks for the rest of the Dec. 1 game, their 29-18 lead going into the second quarter was plenty, with the Hawks getting no closer than seven points.
The Tomahawk bench saw considerable playing time throughout the game as well, contributing eight points. Rather than clear the bench at the end of the game, Martin played her backups in every quarter.
When our intensity is high, I want to bring the bench in and make the intensity higher, she said.
Of the team effort, she added, The great thing about our team is we have a whole team that plays well together. We have actually quite a few people we rely on.
The one dim part of the whole game a third quarter in which M-P put up just three points.
Martin said she plans to address it by trying some different looks on the court. But the big thing is she wants to see the girls play more consistently throughout the game.
Weve just got to learn to play a full four quarters. If we can play a full four quarters, were going to be a pretty good team, she said.
