Sultan and Cedarcrest dominated the Cascade Conference subregional tournament at Granite Falls, but a pair of Lakewood wrestlers helped make good for their team.
MARYSVILLE — The district wrestling tournament didn’t hold a lot of surprises for the Tomahawk wrestling team.
Monroe kept it interesting, but the all-senior Tomahawk basketball team ably defeated the Bearcats, clinching the league’s third district playoff slot.

MARYSVILLE — The Highland Christian girls — the whole team back and energized — showed grit and determination as they held off a tough North Sounds Christian team, winning the teams’ third and final meeting 43-39.
LAKEWOOD — If the slumping economy wasn’t enough, add the Lakewood boys basketball team to that list. The Cougars are 0-8 league and 1-12 overall after going 0-3 last week.
MARYSVILLE — With a 62-56 win over North Sound Christian, the Highland Christian boys showed that they’re a factor in the up-in-the-air Northwest Conference.
ARLINGTON — A big game by Arlington senior Kyra Prause and supporting performances from the rest of the Eagle girls basketball team helped the Arlington girls avenge a loss to Marysville-Pilchuck a week earlier.

MARYSVILLE — It was the last dual meet of the season before beginning postseason wrestling and the clash of Marysville and Arlington wrestlers did not disappoint.
LAKEWOOD — Home court advantage isn’t usually a big help to Lakewood athletics. Yet, after the Cougars’ Jan. 23 overtime victory over Sultan, the girls had to thank and acknowledge the fans.
EVERETT — The Tomahawk swim team left their state-eligible swimmers at home and still managed an impressive win over Everett at Forest Park Pool.
