MARYSVILLE The Marysville Skate Inn celebrated Halloween Friday, Oct. 27, to culminate a successful national roller skating month.
The costume party saw close to 250 kids roller skate, listen to three live bands and participate in various ghoulish games.
Skate Inn general manager Nancy Volpert said it was a success and fun was had by all.
When the kids werent diving into the brain soup (cooked plain spaghetti noodles in a toilet bowl with pearl onions, oysters, gummy worms, plastic spiders and Vienna sausages) they were mashing around in homemade gak with equally disgusting feeling items floating in it, she said enthusiastically.
A contest for the costumed skaters featured a first-place winner in three different categories.
There was also a screaming contest and we had two lovely young ladies doing wacky hairdos for the kids who didnt have costumes, Volpert said.
The party came at the tail end of the Roller Skating Associations national ad campaign titled boredom kills.
An RSA press release states that the RSA has executed a national fitness education campaign targeting children. It reminds consumers that roller skating is a fun and healthy activity for everyone, especially young people. Studies have shown that roller skating provides a complete aerobic workout and involves all of the bodys muscles, especially the heart. Just one hour of moderate roller skating burns 330 calories for a 143-pound person.
Volpert said the Skate Inns main goal was to promote health and fitness.
All in all it was a great way to end national roller skating month, she said.
