OAK HARBOR — With a two-over par performance at Gallery Golf Course, Highland Christian senior Craig Crawford adds another laurel to his resume — 2009 district champion.

Already a two-time state champion, Crawford will be the lone Highland Christian representative on the links as he goes for his third at the Tri-Cities Country Club in Kennewick, May 27-28.

In a group that included Life Christian junior Nathan Putnam, Crawford led the 19 golfers that will continue on to state by nine strokes or more.

Two more familiar faces will join Crawford at state — league rivals from Grace Academy, Dylan Falk and Grant Weinberg.

It’s the first state tournament for the two Eagles, who shot 90 and 92 strokes respectively on the par 72 course.

Both schools had teammates see their postseason end at the golf course near Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.

Grace junior Nathaniel Lugg placed 22nd, finishing one stroke shy of 100 for the course, while junior Vince Kurtzenacker from Highland Christian finished two spots back at 102 strokes.

Golfers Garrett Weinberg of Grace Academy and Jeff Kelly, Randy Teal and Nick Groendyk of Highland Christian finished short of the 55-stroke mark after the front nine to qualify to play the back nine.
