Arlington gets on a roll, 3rd at districts, at state Saturday

EVERETT – Baseball is so fun when your team gets on a roll.

With two out in the top of the fourth inning Arlington batted through the order, scoring six runs, on the way to a 14-2 win over Edmonds-Woodway, capturing third place in the 3A District 1 Tournament at Funko Field.

Both teams advance to state.

The Eagles play Saturday at 10 a.m. against O’Dea at Sherman Anderson Field in Mount Vernon.

Against the Warriors, Andrew Smith started the big inning with a bloop single to right. Dylan Corpron had an infield single, followed by Cole Cramer’s RBI single to left. Cameron Smith hit another infield single, loading the bases. Jacob Burkett smacked a 2 RBI single to left, followed by Paul Chung’s RBI single to center. Cameron Anderson hit yet another infield single before Jack Sheward’s 2 RBI single up the middle. Arlington got off to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first when Smith’s double plated Owen Bishop and thanks to a walk, fielder’s choice and error. E-W came right back in the bottom of the inning. After a walk, cleanup hitter lefty Thomas Blahous crushed Burkett’s pitch first pitch to him over the leftfield fence to make it 3-2. The Eagles tallied three more in the third. Smith led off with a double and left Mike Tsoukalas pulled a hard grounder down the rightfield line for another two-bagger to plate Smith. After a single, fielder’s choice and balk, Chung smacked a 2 RBI double down the leftfield line to make it 6-2.

Burkett struck out four and gave up three hits in the five-inning game.

Andrew Smith went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored four times.

The Eagles improved to 21-1 on the year, while E-W is 13-7.
