The girls in Marysville Troop 80 who are determined to become some of the first in the nation to obtain Eagle Scout. They are fighters, and they are winners.

Marysville voters for approving the Regional Fire Authority. Even though the tax will be burdensome for some, it really was the only option now and for the future for our fire and emergency services needs.

To everyone who helped out in Marysville and Arlington for various Earth Day events. Nothing more important than saving our earth for future generations.

Praise to those who give free English classes locally. Learning to speak the same language is key to different nationalities getting along.

For the work done by outgoing Lakewood schools superintendent Michael Mack. We’ll always respect that you were able to help pass a construction bond without asking the legislature to lower the bar. Arlington and Marysville for their Easter Egg hunt events. What a great thing for the kids in our communities.

The city for its vision of the Marysville Opera House. It’s a great venue and so many wonderful events go on there. The Marysville Kiwanis Club has started a new Aktion Club for adults with special needs to help them with community service projects. Marysville is spending quite a bit of money, almost $23,000, for the mayor and City Council to go to Washington, D.C., each year. But it’s hard to argue against it when they bring back $1.35 million in federal money for various local projects.

Arlington and Marysville for their trade fairs, showing students they don’t have to go to college to earn a family wage.

Arlington for its plan to fix up Recreation Alley near the airport. That area is used so much by families doing recreation but it’s an eyesore.

Misses

To those who practice distracted driving. You put yourself and others at risk. For what? To ask what’s for dinner?

To school districts who are trying to raise the levy rates. The timing is just not right. You were just given a bunch of money. Give us a break. Maybe next year.

The Arlington man who murdered his friend, also from Arlington. With friends like that, who needs enemies?

Why do we feel guilty not giving money to panhandlers when they are standing next to signs that say it’s illegal for them to do it?
