Marysville Legion Auxiliary sends care packages to troops

MARYSVILLE — Kay Smith wants the Marysville community to know that their American Legion post not only has its own Ladies Auxiliary, but that this Auxiliary is already hard at work on providing for active-duty service members.

Smith is president of Marysville Unit 178 of the American Legion Auxiliary, which is assembling a work party June 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Marysville American Legion Hall, located at 119 Cedar Ave., to put together care packages for American troops serving overseas.

Smith explained that the Auxiliary needs donations to cover shipping costs, and will be shipping its care packages to Soldiers’ Angels in Pasadena, Calif., who will in turn be sending those packages overseas.

“Our goal is to send 100 care packages twice a year,” said Smith, who added that checks can be made payable to Marysville Unit 178 of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Smith is also soliciting donations of items to include in the care packages, such as lip balm, hand sanitizer, crossword puzzle books, foot powder, sunblock, pocket-size paper tablets, pens, Trident gum and non-chocolate candy.

These items can be dropped off at Carr’s Hardware, located at 1514 Third St., or Third Street Books, located at 1615 Third St.
