MARYSVILLE — It’s 14 inches wide, 29 inches long and 9 inches deep, and Ken Cage hopes it can carry the memories of Marysville’s women into the future.

It’s a metal foot locker that’s currently being housed at the Marysville Historical Society, located at 1508-B Third St., and as MHS president, Cage plans on turning it into the community’s time capsule.

“We’re looking to fill it with anything that women use today,” Cage said. “We already have items ranging from curling irons and ladies’ catalogs to issues of See-Yaht-Sub and The Marysville Globe.”

Cage hopes to receive current women’s fashions and beauty products to add to the time capsule, and plans to include audio tape and DVD players with messages and possibly popular music from the present.

“We want the women of 2010 to know what it was like to live today, 100 years in their past,” Cage said. “We invite ladies to bring in their items, along with little stories about them and reasons why they think folks in the future would like to see them. Family photographs and stories to accompany them would be great in that regard. We can look back today and see the styles of 1910, and we want women of the future to be able to make that same comparison.”

Cage plans to collect items for the time capsule through June 30, and possibly afterward, depending on how many items he’s received by then.
