MARYSVILLE — Kelli Erdmann and Jared Rumsey have been named the Marysville Soroptimist and Kiwanis students of the month for April.

Erdmann ranks first in her class with a 4.0 cumulative GPA and has taken college algebra. She’s been an Honor Roll student since 6th grade and a National Honor Society member in 11th and 12th grade. In 9th grade, she earned the Science Academics and Truly All Around Student awards, and received second place in a video productions competition.

Erdmann served as a member of the Madrigal Choir in 9th grade and as secretary of the Random Acts of Kindness Everyday Club in 11th grade, in addition to teaching free swimming lessons through an elementary swim class in 10th and 11th grade. She participated in putting on the Special Needs Prom and Day of Beauty in 11th grade, and in 12th grade, she interned in the Special Needs classroom and was nominated for Most Spirited.

Erdmann also served as an ASB representative in 10th grade, a Freshman Mentor in 11th and 12th grade, and in a youth leadership position for young women at her church from 9th through 12th grade. In 10th and 11th grade, she worked as a camp counselor for children with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. She also received numerous dance awards and won various competitions and scholarships to intensives throughout the U.S. while she was a member of a pre-professional dance company based out of Seattle, who performed, trained and competed from 9th through 12th grade.

Erdmann has volunteered at and collected for the Marysville Community Food Bank, done yard work for the elderly, cleaned church buildings, and made play mats and baby hats for children in need. She’s also volunteered at Deseret Industries in Seattle, as well as in a kindergarten classroom at Kellogg Marsh Elementary in 11th grade. In 12th grade, she’s taught dance to children at the Northwest Dance and Acro Center.

Rumsey has a 3.879 cumulative GPA with advanced classes, and has exceeded standards on all parts of the WASL each year he’s taken it. He’s been a National Honor Society member for two years. He’s received the Masonic Crystal Lodge 122 Achievement Award, the WIAA Distinguished Scholastic Award, the President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, and the Marysville-Pilchuck High School and International School of Communications Certificate of Academic Excellence.

Rumsey lettered all three years on the Varsity Tennis Team, of which he was a co-captain, and has taken part in “You Gotta Love This Place” for two years. He’s chaired the Commencement Committee, and served as a Boy Scout patrol leader and supervised his Eagle Scout project. He’s also led a Latter-Day Saints youth group and served on the Senior Class Board.

Rumsey has led the M-PHS Marching Band through the Strawberry Festival and Tulalip parades as its drum major, and played lead alto saxophone in the Jazz Ensemble. In addition, he volunteers at the Marysville Community Food Bank and visits the elderly at the Marysville Care Center and Madeleine Villa.
