ARLINGTON — Tensions were high last week at a Marysville-Pilchuck baseball game when the Tomahawks managed to score 18 runs and keep Arlington at zero on their home turf on April 18.

M-P ranks second in the Wesco North 4A division and now, after two losses to the Tommies, Arlington ranks fifth of six in the division.

The Tomahawks started out strong in their series against the Eagles with the 18-0 victory in the first game. On Marysville-Pilchuck’s offense, senior John Naff went 4-5 with four doubles and Kacey Walker was 3-5. Jake Johnson  was on the mound through the fourth inning and Bryce Minnich pitched through to the end of the game.

“I was really impressed,” said M-P Head Coach Kurt Koshelnik. “Eighteen was kind of a big number, but it wasn’t a sloppy game.”

Koshelnik believed that his team played a great game and that individual successes included Joe Morgan, who played a really solid game, as well as junior Tyler Wade. “Tyler came in off the bench and hit a double with two RBI,” Koshelnik said.

The Tomahawks managed to clinch another victory during the second game of the series on Friday, April 20. “The next game was 6-1,” said Koshelnik. “Arlington played much better, but with baseball you really never know. It can be different day by day.”

The Tomahawks are set to begin a series against the bottom-ranked Monroe Bearcats in an away game on April 25.

“We’re preparing for them by focusing on how we play and we’re not as concerned about who,” said Koshelnik. The Tomahawks will host Monroe on April 27 and then travel to Monroe on April 30 for the final game of the series.
