After Cascade returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown against M-P Friday, Oct. 13, it appeared the host Bruins were in for an easy night.
Unfortunately for the Tommies, the games first touchdown was the first of several in a 34-7 defeat for the states second largest high school.
M-Ps second trip to Everetts Memorial Stadium resulted in as many losses en route to a 1-6 record in league play and overall. Cascade improved to 4-2, 5-2.
M-P nearly responded to the early 8-0 deficit when senior Duane Lapeyri took the ensuing kickoff to the Cascade 7-yard line.
Faced with a fourth and four, senior place-kicker Kaleb Kuehn hit the upright on a botched field goal attempt.
Senior quarterback Steve Atterson finally got the Tommies on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when he connected with Lapeyri for a 19-yard pass and Kuehn converted on the point after touchdown.
Interestingly, M-P out gained the Bruins 231 to 229 yards, but Cascade capitalized on five Tommie turnovers.
Coach Rudy Grandbois said the team did a good job, but their handful of turnovers made it difficult to overcome.
The kids did a good job and kept fighting, Grandbois said. It was just one of those nights that we didnt move the ball all that well. I told they kids they fought hard.
Grandbois said the team doesnt give up they just make mistakes and have a hard time recovering from them.
M-P travels to Edmonds Stadium Friday, Oct. 20, to face undefeated Edonds-Woodway.
The game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
