M-P lost 47-46 to fall to 0-1 in league play and 3-1 overall 48 hours after defeating the Kamiak Knights 51-47 at the Jim Linden Fieldhouse.
Second-year coach Bary Gould said his squad was definitely expecting a close battle against the Panthers and described the game as having a playoff like atmosphere.
It was a packed gym and a pretty cool environment, Gould said. Both teams played really hard and overall it was a really good high school basketball game. If you are going to lose a game, I guess its better to do it now than in the playoffs.
Senior guard Jared Stohl led all scorers with 25 points and 6-foot-10 inch center Nathan Lozeau had limited playing time due to early foul trouble.
