MARYSVILLE — Marysville-Pilchuck teams finished in the middle of a large pack while playing host Oct. 3 to the Tomahawk Twilight at Cedarcrest Golf Course.

“It turned out to be a pretty special day,” said Tomahawks coach Randy Edens. “This is the third year we’ve had it and the weather has been beautiful.”

Thirty-three team participated, most of which bringing both boys and girls teams to the event. The Marysville boys, who finished 14th with a score of 341, were led by 29th-place finisher Stevie Utt, who ran the 3.1 miles in 17:10.71. He was followed by Eduardo Carranza, who bested his career time by 20 seconds, finishing 17:30.50, which put him in 44th place.

“Eddie is our second guy and a lot of our runners posted PRs on Saturday, but Eddie’s was the biggest difference,” Edens said.

Winning the boys race was Inglemoor with a score of 101.

On the girls side, freshman Rachel Lefstad led Marysville with a 32nd-place finish, running the pitch black course in 20:15.79 and drawing a lot of praise from her coach.

“Rachel has really started to figure it out. We had a pretty good talk last week and decided that she was capable of more and she definitely showed that,” Edens said. “I am really excited to see what she can do.”

The Tomahawk girls finished 13th with a score of 340. First place was Eastlake with a score of 57.

Edens said the course was a fast one because of its layout and the fact that it saw a couple of dry days before the races.

“We thought it was going to be soggy, but those two days really dried it out,” he said. “Also, having the course start out on top with the first mile and a half heading down really sets a fast pace.”
