The Tomahawks got back on the winning track Wednesday, Oct. 11, with a 6-1 Wesco North League victory over the 3A Arlington Eagles.
M-P picked up wins from juniors Alan Butner and Christopher Wall, sophomore Kyle Hanks in singles action and the doubles teams of senior Joel Anderson and sophomore Riley Gilbertson; seniors Michael Stadum and Jacob Newman; senior Michael Opel and sophomore Jeffrey Jensen.
Number two singles player Alan Butner said he felt pretty good about his performance against Will Heath of the Eagles.
I felt I did the same as the last time I played him at the No. 3 position, but he came out really hungry and really wanted a third set, Butner said. I was up 5-3 and he came back and won four of the next six games, but the main thing is that I won. The coach said half the battle is getting in their (the opponents) head. Overall, I felt I had a pretty good performance. I am pretty excited about playing in the No. 2 spot in districts coming up where I will get to test my skills.
Head coach Robert Sherry echoed Butners feelings toward the team performance and said the team played pretty tough.
Weve had a couple of 4-3 performances lately that were a bit closer than they needed to be, Sherry said.
Overall, they are playing the way Im envisioning them playing from practice. Every season has its peaks and valleys and I think were out of the valley now. Kyle Hanks has about seven victories in a row now and is getting a great amount of experience.
