Logger volleyball has an up and down week

In a clash of the top two teams in the Northwest 1A/2B league, LaConner dominated their match against Darrington 25-16, 25-12, 25-17.
To be honest, we were never really in it. It was the polar opposite of the match we had a few weeks ago with them, said Coach Greg Powell.
Caitlin Pendergrass had five kills for the Loggers.
Darrington rebounded by winning a five-set match over Orcas Island 3-2. After sweeping the Vikings at Orcas a few weeks ago, the Loggers found the going much tougher this time at home. Scores were 20-25, 25-16, 25-17, 20-25, 15-11.
Orcas played extremely hard and their scrappy game kept us on our heels, especially in the first and fourth games, said Powell.
To the Darringtons credit, they came out very strong in the fifth game and finally put Orcas away. Mandy Powell had an outstanding night, recording 31 assists, 4 blocks, 21 digs, and 5 kills. Right side hitter Caitlin Pendergrass contributed heavily to the cause with 12 kills and 4 blocks, consistently rejecting Orcas kill attempts. Maggie Wicken had 8 kills and 4 blocks. Kimi Woodward had 24 perfect passes in serve receive, and 18 digs.
The Loggers are ranked seventh in the current state poll with a 7-2 league record, 8-3 overall.
