We were very pleased with the effort. Snohomish has one of the top teams in the state this year, and we felt we could have got them. We had a very strong effort from the team, said M-P wrestling coach Craig Iversen of the narrow Dec. 6 loss. We hate to be pleased with a loss, but the effort and energy they put out that night, were definitely pleased with and hopefully next well do better next time we see them.
Iversen added that hes particularly happy with the progress of his two top weights. At 215 pounds, Tannon Hillis pinned his Snohomish opponent in the third round, a key win for the Tomahawks.
Senior Michael Pfeiff, at 285 pounds, led in points before succumbing to a pin by Panther Jake Reinhard.
Both of our ends are doing really well, Tannon Hillis and Michael Pfeiff have been having a wonderful start to the season, Iversen said. Michael lost that night, but were really excited about his progress so far and were looking forward to seeing that match again.
That rematch may take place when Snohomish visits M-P Jan. 12.
For now, Iversen said hes happy with the progress hes seeing from a relatively green team. The Tomahawks next tests include Everett which took place after the Globe went to press and at Stanwood Dec. 13.
The one versus Stanwood were very excited about. The teams know each other through camps and summer wrestling. We go to their jamboree, he said. The speed were coming along, were very satisfied with. If we keep this progress up, I think well be off to a good start.
