MARYSVILLE — In one of the newer ideas from the Marysville Parks and Recreation Department, the city is organizing a trip to Emerald Downs.

Set up with Recreation Without Borders, the package will include a whole day of activities around the race track on Aug. 14.

“We just want to offer a variety of trips to get people out of the house,” said recreation coordinator Andrea Kingsford.

These summer trips have already included a white water river rafting tour on the Wenatchee River, a tour of the Bainbridge Island Bloedel Reserve and sampling the best of Bellevue, among others.

Registration for the trip down to the Auburn track closes Aug. 2 for $41 and Kingsford said there are seats available for a special trip.

“The cool thing about this one is that we go early in the day and get a tour of the facilities before the races begin,” Kingsford said.

The tour includes the stands as well as the stables.

Those registering to make the trip must be 21 years or older. Those wanting to learn how to place wagers on race horses while at the track are also likely to receive instruction, should they want any, Kingsford said.

“That wasn’t specifically on the itinerary, but our trip coordinator Lauren Woodmansee does a great job of finding out what our guests want to do and adjusting to that.”

The summer program is about keeping the community active, which also includes weekly walks at a different park every Tuesday and weekly hikes as well.
