Two members of the Tomahawk boys soccer team that placed fourth in the state tournament this year were recognized by state media for their seasons.

Junior forward John Crenshaw and junior midfielder Brady Ballew both made the state second team.

Crenshaw, who led the Tomahawks in scoring through their undefeated regular season and to conference and district championships, placed third in the MVP voting, behind South Kitsap forward Justin Moore and Marco Acevedo, a Pasco forward. Though both forwards led the ballot, they were only the third and fourth players at their position on the first team, behind Dylan Gaydosh of Stadium and Ugo Okoli of Todd Beamer.

Three members of the Wesco North champion Marysville-Pilchuck baseball team made the all-state baseball team. First baseman Devin Peterson, right fielder Levi Cartas and center fielder Austin Denton all earned honorable mention recognition. The Tomahawks competed in the state tournament, falling in the first round to the Tahoma team that went on to place third in the state.

Senior Jessica Tanigawa, an outfielder on the Tomahawk softball team that earned an under-the-radar berth to the district tournament, was named a first-team pick. She has committed to play for Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Penn., next season.

In addition, three Lakewood athletes were recognized for contributions to their teams.

Senior Brian Star was a first-team pick at defender on an injury-laden Lakewood soccer team that missed the state tournament for the first time in five years.

The school had two more picks from their very young baseball team, rebuilding after graduating a powerhouse senior class. Pitcher Jordan Stauffer was named a second-team player for his efforts at shortstop, while fellow Jesse Etchey was named honorable mention at catcher.
