MARYSVILLE — Marysville Getchell’s girls basketball coach Shannon Grandbois said she is most excited for seniors Carley Wika, Jadyn Noriega and her daughter, Gabby Grandbois, who have started all four years.
Wika and Grandbois have played together since sixth grade. “They pretty much know exactly what each other is going to do on the court,” Grandbois said.
Grandbois led with 12 points in MG’s season-opening 51-22 loss to Bishop Blanchet Nov. 30.
Other returning players will add depth to the team.
“[They] know the expectations so well that it has been an extremely easy and fun transition to the new season,” Grandbois said. “I am really excited to see how this team gels together and am excited to see how they attack each team we face.”
Grandbois said she has freshman depth that is going to push the program to future success. Her youngest daughter, Maddy, will be among the freshman.
“Which is very exciting that her and her sister will have one year to play together,” she added.
Grandbois said the team is focused on staying competitive, “Really pushing each other in practice each day so when we play those tough teams we are ready.”
MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Getchell boys basketball team returns senior leadership, talent and “Charger pride” to compete in the Wesco 3A North.
Already showing promise is sophomore guard Caleb Koellmer, who played varsity last season. Koellemer scored a team-high 15 points in MG’s debut loss against Jefferson 62-52 Nov 29.
“They are excited to meet the first challenger,” coach Corby Schuh said. “The main goal is to compete against whoever they are playing on that given night.”
MG returns high-scoring senior point guard Cody Day, who holds the school record for 32 points in a single game. He also “has the ability to impact both sides of the floor,” Schuh said.
Adding “hustle” to the floor will be senior guard Charles Tait.
Junior guard Ian Roskelley also debuted for varsity last season. He will add defensive depth, but has also improved his shooting game to hit 3-pointers from afar, adding to MG’s offense, Schuh said.
