TACOMA — Marysville-Pilchuck’s historic football season came to an end Saturday, losing 56-21 to Lincoln in the state 3A quarterfinals.

Lincoln QB Caden Filer passed 56 yards to Julien Simon to put the Abes up 7-0 just 22 seconds into the game. M-P’s Jordan Justice picked off a pass, but Lincoln got it right back with an interception for a 56-yard TD to make it 14-0. Simon then caught a 49-yard TD to make it 21-0.

The Tommies came back with two scores of their own to make it 21-14. Justice scored both of those, on runs of 24 and 53 yards.

After another Abe score, M-P QB Jake Elwood’s TD made it 28-21.

Still in the first half, Simon caught his third TD pass, this one from 57 yards to make it 35-21. The Abes weren’t done, however. With just 6.1 seconds left before halftime, Filer passed 13 yards to make it 42-21 at intermission.

M-P ends the season at 11-1. The Abes (10-2) advance to the semifinals to play No. 2 Eastside Catholic.

“I knew we’d play hard,” coach Brandon Carson told The Herald. “A lot of things had to go our way. This (Lincoln) is a really good team, and we were going to fight until the end.” Filer passed for 290 yards, 210 in the first half along with the four scores.
