MARYSVILLE The Tomahawks won every event and placed three swimmers in the top four places in total domination of Cascade Jan. 24.
In the teams final home meet of the season, Marysville was primarily racing against the clock and each other as swimmers tried to cut crucial seconds off their times to meet standards for district and state competition.
Cascade fell 143-43.
In the race for a lane at districts which Marysville will host only senior Dallis Wilcox added to his tally, winning the 200 individual medley by clocking a time one-10th of a second under the district cutoff of 2:27.00.
Others had already met their marks or remained tantalizingly close.
Ben Osterhaug, Ryan Shay and Dustin Alexander are all within a second of qualifying in the 50 freestyle, while freshman Mario Reichlins best time is within the same margin to qualify for districts in the 100 freestyle.
With the regular season out of the way, swimmers last chance to qualify for districts will be the junior varsity championships at Kamiak Jan. 31.
Another freshman, Spencer Girard, will swim the mammoth 500 freestyle at districts. But if he can shed about three seconds from his time through that weekend, hell be qualified to swim the event at state as well. He is already eligible for state in the 100 breaststroke, one of four Tomahawks state qualified in an individual event at this point in the season.
Others inked in to join him are juniors Trevor
LeValley and Gabe Lopez, and senior diver Taylor Gibson. With three relays also qualified, M-P coach Scott Knowles is able to select swimmers to fill those 12 slots.
With just JV championships left to qualify for districts and districts to qualify for state, Knowles is planning where to place swimmers to have their best meet. Swimmers are backing off of their most intense training and resting now to increase speed.
Were trying to see if we could hit more district-qualifying times, Knowles said, adding that he has a pretty good idea who will meet their goals.
It adds up to a busy week for Knowles as he tries to place swimmers in the events where theyre most likely to continue on.
