MARYSVILLE – Marysville-Pilchuck’s girls tennis team won its season-opening match over Mountlake Terrace Thursday 5-2.
Jensen Corbett won at No. 1 singles in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Hayley Dixon won an exciting come-from-behind match at third singles, losing the first set 6-2, but winning in a tiebreaker 7-6 (8-6) in the thrilling second set, before winning 6-3 in the last one.
Paige Bramer, a sophomore, took the fourth singles in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, Destany Bogart and Mariah Prater won at No. 1, and Cheyenne Coe and Dana Bichel at No. 2.
Nate McClellan, the M-P coach, said he has a number of players returning, “which is really nice.”
Because of the bad weather, they have spent a lot of time inside practicing conditioning. Their area for hitting inside is a “tight cafeteria space.” “It’s hard to tell a ladder; who will work well with whom,” because of a lack of outside playing time, McClellan said.
