M-P hangs on to beat Lynnwood in baseball

MARYSVILLE – Eric Anderson got by with a little help from his friend Mark Bieawski.

Anderson, a pitcher for Marysville-Pilchuck High School, picked up the win for the Tomahawks in a 6-5 victory over Lynnwood April 14. But it might not have happened without Bieawski.

Not only did Bieawski lead the Tommies at the plate, getting three hits in four at-bats, along with knocking in three runs. But Bieawski also relieved Anderson in the seventh inning to get the save.

Anderson held Lynnwood to only four hits, but he had some control issues on the rainy day, allowing walks that kept the visitors in the game.

The seesaw score saw Lynnwood take a 3-0 lead in the third, but M-P came back in the bottom of the inning to lead 4-3. After M-P went ahead 5-3, Lynnwood came back to tie it at 5-5 in the top of the fifth. M-P scored the winning run in the sixth before Bieawski came in to end it.

M-P pounded out 11 hits in the game. Kee-An Ballard went 2-3 with an RBI, and Colby Phelps had a double and an RBI for the Tommies.

Kyler McMahan hit a homer for the losing team.
