M-P physical education teacher Kurt Koshelnik was named the next head coach of the Marysville-Pilchuck baseball team Oct. 25.
He succeeds former coach Josh Rosenbach, who left the position to become an administrator in the Marysville School District.
The Tomahawks were 10-6 in conference play last year, securing the third playoff slot out of Wesco North. Koshelnik said he hopes to continue to build on the programs success.
Obviously coach Rosenbach did a really fine job, he said. I just want to keep up what Josh had started.
Koshelnik is a 1996 graduate of Everett High, and went on to play for Lewis & Clark State College in Idaho, where he was part of two NAIA championship teams. More recently, Koshelnik served as an assistant coach for the Tomahawk varsity team.
Though the Tomahawks lost a number of starters to graduation, the new coach said hes not worried yet about figuring out how to replace them.
Until we hold tryouts and see what exactly were working with, I dont think its going to change anything, he said. Well have some young guys stepping up and filling roles that were vacated. Its a good opportunity for them.
