Fun run to raise money for scholarships

Organizers of the June 28 Arlington Airport Run hope to use proceeds from the race for a good cause.

In the event’s first year, the run hopes to raise money to send middle school- and high school-aged youth to Young Life, a Christian summer camp.

“Young Life is like a Christian Big Brothers and Big Sisters. It’s not really a youth group, but they have Christian activities for the kids to do,” said organizer Jenny Dow. “We’re going to take the biggest group we’ve ever taken, which is really amazing given the economy.”

The fun run, which includes 1k, 5k and 10k courses, hopes to cut into the campers’ costs.

Day-of registration begins at 10 a.m. with the 1k kids race starting at noon.

The longer races begin at 12:30 p.m., starting and ending behind the Stillaguamish Athletic Club on 172nd Street.

“One hundred percent of every registration goes to camp scholarships for Young Life camp,” Dow added. “We just realized that everybody was having a hard time fundraising and we needed to do something that would reach out to the community.”

Registration is $20 for the race and another $8 for a t-shirt.
