LAKEWOOD On a dreary gray day, the Lakewood track team took on Cedarcrest, Coupeville and Granite Falls in an important late-season meet. In addition to winning both the boys and girls overall team scores, Lakewood produced a number of impressive individual performances.
On the boys side DJ Griffin and Kyle Hayton finished 1-2 in the 100m, Griffin winning with a time of 11.87 seconds.
Griffin also won the high jump and finished second in the 200m, just behind teammate Devon Smith who won with a time of 24.00 seconds.
Smith had a great all-around meet, winning also in the 400m with a time of 52.74 seconds. Behind him in the 400m was teammate Terrence Ordonez, who placed second with a time of 55.77 seconds.
Ordonez also finished third in the 1,600m with a time of 4:42.31. Teammate James Ervin took second with a time of 4:36.10. In fact, it was a fantastic meet for Lakewood in the 1,600m with 13 different finishers coming in under 5:04. This may be the deepest group of distance runners in school history.
Ervin also placed second in the 3,200m, finishing in 10:35.86.
In the hurdles events, Lakewoods Nick Borisov took top honors in both the 110m high hurdles and the 300m intermediate hurdles. Borisov later won the pole vault with a jump of 1100.
Bryce Camp captured both the long and triple jumps for Lakewood, scoring an 1800 leap in the long jump and 3608 in the triple jump.
For the girls, Lakewood swept all three throwing events. Tanya Hulslander won the javelin with a throw of 10004, Brandi LaFave cleaned up in the discuss, throwing 11500, 35 feet past her closest competitor. Rachel Hartman won a close shot put final with a toss of 3104.
Amanda Gregory triumphed in the long jump with a leap of 1503.
Another top performer on the girls side was Michelle Howe who won the 100m, the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles. Her times of 15.78 seconds and 48.69 seconds in the hurdles events allowed her to win each race with relative ease.
Mareyoko Butler won the 400m and Danielle Osti placed second.
The star performance of the meet took place in the 800m, where Corrine Gogert won with a time of 2:23.97. Gogerts time is a school record.
