Behind Wade’s bombs, Marysville all-stars take it to Mukilteo

ARLINGTON — Marysville 12-year-olds pack a punch.

That much was clear during the Marysville National’s 10-0 rout of Mukilteo American in majors action June 2 at Quake Fields in Arlington.

“We have it when they’re under control and stay patient in the batter’s box,” said Marysville National manager Jeff Rosten.

But that wasn’t how the loser-out game began, as early indications were that it was going to be a pitcher’s duel with both teams’ starters striking out 11 of the first 13 batters they faced.

But Marysville made an adjustment first, and scored six runs in the third.

“I think they were nervous of this game,” Rosten said. “They were a little hesitant, but then they started to key in on the fastball in the third.”

Jacob Watts started the inning off with a double. He came around to score when Sam Linscott followed with a single.

“That double by Jacob kind of got us going, thinking that we could get to this pitcher,” Rosten said.

A walk of Austin Maganas put two on base for Jared Wade. Wade took a 1-2 fastball and smashed it out of the park for a three-run homer. It was the first of his two bombs on the day.

“It doesn’t matter where Jared hits the ball, it’s hit hard,” Rosten said of Wade, who hit 10 home runs in the regular season. “He’s got quick hands and a solid swing. He can just drive the ball.”

Through three games, Wade has three home runs in the District 1 tournament.

On the other side of the game, Marysville was stingy to say the least with Mukilteo hitters. Starting pitcher Hunter Trueax pitched 3 1/3 innings while striking out six. He was relieved by Alex Rosten, who struck out four of the nine batters he faced in closing out the game.

Wade ended the game going 2-for-3 with two homers, five RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. Also having a good day at the plate was Trueax and Trent Tingelstad, who each went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

The win keeps Marysville alive, needing to keep winning for a chance to play for the championship. They opened the tournament with a, 11-0 win over North Snohomish behind Trueax’s 13-strikeout performance. Marysville National then lost to Marysville American 7-6 in the double-elimination tournament. They needed four more consecutive wins to make the championship game.
