MARYSVILLE — Beginning July 23, the city of Marysville brings back its popular all-city track meet for a third summer.

The meets, which will take place at Marysville-Pilchuck High School on four consecutive Thursdays, feature 17 different events, available to competitors of all ages. Each meet will include field events the long jump, standing long jump, softball throw, shot put and high jump. Running events include the 50-meter hurdles, 100 hurdles, 110 hurdles, 50-meter dash, 100, 800, joggers mile, 200, 400, 1,600 and 400 relay. Each meet will end with a long-distance race.

The joggers mile is less a contest of who finishes first than who knows his time the best. Runners may guess their mile time before they set out. Those finishing close to their predicted time may win a prize. No watches allowed.

“Not only will you get healthier through fun competition against other individuals in your age group, but you’ll also be helping the Marysville Healthy Communities Project in its goals,” said Marysville recreation coordinator Dave Hall, adding, “Who knows….you might even set an All-Comers record!”

All four meets begin at 6 p.m., with registration starting a half hour in advance. The cost is $3 at the gate with participants eligible to compete in every event.
