MARYSVILLE — The Marysville American all-stars faced a bruising game in the first round of the 9/10 district tournament at Cedar Field.

A young crew from the smaller Marysville North league, the local team fell 10-0 to the all-stars from Pacific Little League in the 9 a.m. game June 28.

Batting guest, first baseman Zach Yarbrough walked in the first inning, but the team was unable to capitalize on the opportunity. Defensively, they left Pacific runners stranded at second and third as pitcher Ethan Alday picked up a strikeout and the team added two more outs in the field.

The second inning was not as kind to Marysville.

Pacific’s first two batters walked and George Reedy in the nine-hole bunted, getting to first and scoring his teammates. Pacific reeled off four consecutive hits after Reedy, scoring four more. They added an eighth run in the second inning as the Pacific runner stole home. With two more runs in the third inning and a defensive hold in the top of the fourth, Pacific held on to pick up the 10-run win in four innings.

“They’re young players and we’re just interested in getting them ready for the next level,” said manager Cully Preston.

The boys get another game July 1 at 5 p.m. against Granite Falls.
