The Washington State Patrol Major Accident Investigation Team is seeking additional witnesses to a fatal collision.
MAIT is investigating a one-car fatality collision that occurred in the 16900 block of Ash Way in Snohomish County on September 15, 2007, at 8:55 p.m. A 911 caller reported that a white Ford Explorer was driving very erratically southbound on I-5 near 4th Street in Marysville. A state trooper attempted to stop the Ford Explorer on the southbound I-5 exit to 164th Street SW but the vehicle continued and exited the freeway. The Explorer stopped at a red light at the intersection of 164th and Ash Way. The trooper contacted the driver at the drivers window of the Explorer in an attempt to have him exit the vehicle. The Explorer then fled south on Ash Way and crashed. The driver died a short time later at Harborview Medical Center from injuries sustained in the collision.
Detectives are interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen any of the chain of events from Marysville, the attempt to stop on the freeway, contact on 164th, or the collision. Investigators have learned there were possibly two vehicles ahead of the Explorer at the signal on 164th at Ash Way; as well as one vehicle that was ahead of the Explorer when it crashed.
If you have any information, you are asked to call Detective Sergeant Jerry Cooper at 360- 805-1192, or Detective Bob Schroeder at 360-805-1194.
