ISLAND CROSSING Wellers Chalet Inn is back in business, although the founding family is no longer at the helm.
The owners of several Pattys Eggnest Family restaurants, in Mukilteo, Monroe and Mill Creek, as well as the Chuckwagon in Everett, Tom and Mabel Chin reopened the Island Crossing restaurant Sept. 9.
Famous around Puget Sound for good breakfasts, the new owners are keeping the Weller name for several reasons.
Because we will offer lunch and dinner as well as breakfast and theres still a cocktail lounge, we didnt want people to think of this as a breakfast spot so we decided to keep the name, Mabel Chin said.
And because it is an institution in the community.
Chin explained they kept the Chuckwagon name on their restaurant in Everett for the same reasons.
The menu is very similar to the former Wellers Restaurant, with all the standard American fare such as eggs and hashbrowns, pancakes and omelettes for breakfast; hamburgers, corned beef and Rueben sandwiches, and fish and chips for lunch, and steaks, pasta and fish for dinner.
Pattys Eggnest is famous for its pancakes and its special homemade bread, which is served in large chunks.
The manager, Dawn Greenleaf, has been transferred from the Mill Creek Pattys. The decor inside is largely the same in the dining room and has been brightened up with a bright, egg-yolk yellow in the breakfast area.
Employing 25 people at the new restaurant, the Chin family has 30 years of experience in the restaurant business.
The restaurant at 2211 SR 530 NE is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sundays.
