MARYSVILLE – House fires did not take the Memorial Day weekend off this year in Marysville.

Marysville Fire District crews were dispatched to a house fire with smoke showing in the 500 block of Alder Avenue May 30 just before 3:40 p.m. A thermal column could be seen from a mile away.

Crews were defensive in their attack on the fire and quickly contained it. Three engines, two aid units, a medic unit and a ladder truck responded to the fire. No injuries were reported.

The Marysville Fire District Fire Marshal and the Marysville Police Department determined the fire was intentionally set. There is an ongoing investigation. The house had been determined a total loss from a previous fire. The dollar loss was estimated at $103,000.

“Be aware of your surroundings,” said Kristen Thorstenson, public education specialist and information officer for the Marysville Fire District. “If you have an unoccupied house or other structure close, pay attention to any unfamiliar movement.
