Lakewood High School Teacher Jon Nauert will be recognized at the annual Washington Association of School Administrators Region 109 Luncheon at the Everett Golf and Country Club on May 17.
Nauert is the Lakewood recipient of the Student Achievement Leadership Award and was selected because of his leadership in developing the districts Technology Competency Program.
Nauert was instrumental in developing the districts proficiency-based technology system for the Lakewood School District. As the districts lead technology trainer, Nauert helped to design Lakewoods Technology Tiers that will help move our teachers from a focus on individual productivity to using technology as a tool to improve student achievement. Research shows that the use of technology to specific curricular objectives helps enhance student learning.
Nauert also helped to design the classes and performance assessments that enable teachers to achieve the specific skills needed. He teaches the technology classes to ensure that teachers have the skills, and finally he tests the teachers newly acquired skills.
Nauert also served as the districts Basmati expert, assisting teachers with training and implementation. He has assisted at the district level as well, acting as a host during the districts recent Open House showing the community how the various technologies work.
Nauert has done all of this while teaching science full-time at Lakewood High School.
Additionally, Lakewood volunteer Sharon Krutsinger was selected to receive Lakewoods WASA Community Leadership Award. Sharon Krutsinger, otherwise known as Bear to hundreds of students in the Lakewood School District, is an outstanding volunteer. She has been volunteering for over
13 years. She spends the entire day at school helping students with academic needs, lending an ear to children that just need someone to listen and care, and helping to prepare materials to be used in the classroom.
Krutsingers area of expertise and her favorite thing to do is to work with students on a one-on-one basis. In reading, she listens carefully to students and helps them improve their fluency and comprehension. She gently guides many young writers to finish their compositions and be proud of their work. Bear also works one-on-one with math students to help them master concepts. Her many years of experience, endless patience, and heartfelt compassion makes a difference to each of the students she tutors.
Her unselfish dedication has made it possible to provide a greater educational experience to the students. Her countless hours of volunteering have helped many students over the years.
