The Lakewood school district has 75 staff members who have successfully passed the first level of the districts recently implemented Technology Competency Program.
The Technology Competency Program is a staff training system, taught by district trainer Jon Nauert, developed to improve technology skills, including the integration of technology tools into the classroom.
The level one focus is centered on basic technology skills including Computer Operations, Beginning Word, Outlook, and Internet Basics. Certified staff passing the Level 1 test receive a $100 stipend.
Instruction and testing has recently begun on level two which focuses on beginning technology integration and includes components on Advanced Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and specific district software programs utilized by our teachers. Certified staff passing the level two test will receive a $200 stipend and be eligible for level three.
Level three is still under development and will focus on the seamless integration of technology tools into teaching and learning. Level three will require multiple days of training with emphasis on collaboration, best practices, and effective technology integration. Candidates for level three must successfully pass levels one and two and complete an application for participation.
Staff members approved to participate at this level will receive a technology equipment package consisting of a computer, an interactive whiteboard, ceiling mounted LCD projector, document camera, and an audio enhancement system.
The number of staff selected for the level three program will be based upon available budget and balance between schools, grade levels, and subject areas.
