Marysville Strawberry Festival hosts open house at new digs Oct. 25

MARYSVILLE – Maryfest, the group behind the annual Marysville Strawberry Festival, is hosting an open house Oct. 25.

The public is invited to meet members of the festival from 5-8 p.m., along with tours of the remodeled strawberry red and white building, 1412 First St. near Ebey Waterfront Park.

“Now that we have unpacked the boxes and hung up the pictures, it’s time to welcome friends, family and colleagues to our festival’s new location,” Festival President Jodi Hiatt said.

City officials permitted Maryfest to move into the unoccupied city building – the former Baxter Auto Supply Center – which now serves as the festival’s central hub, providing meeting space, a workshop for designing and building the annual festival float, and float storage.

Previously, the festival main office were located on State Avenue across from Safeway Plaza, and prior to that in a since-removed caboose at 4th Street and Cedar Avenue.

Maryfest is running a membership drive to recruit more people to join the festival, which requires year-round planning for the 10-day event held the third week in June each year, Hiatt said. With the parade circuit in full swing from spring into fall requiring float and royalty participation, the festival can always use more volunteers.

Beverages and light snacks will be provided.
