MARYSVILLE — Shelby Hintze and Danny Stokes have been named the Marysville Soroptimist and Kiwanis students of the month for February.

Hintze has taken AP classes in language and composition, literature and composition, and comparative politics, as well as Honors English II. She’s been an Honor Roll student for all four years of high school and a University of Washington DO-IT Scholar, who is set to have an article published in the American School Board Journal.

Stokes has a 3.7 cumulative GPA and has taken AP classes in statistics, language and composition, and comparative politics. He’s a National Honor Society member and a participant in the “Academic Challenge” program, who ranks in the top 15 percent of his graduating class.

Hintze has taken part in Knowledge Bowl and this year’s production of “The Sound of Music,” attended the Mt. Rainier Leadership Camp and served as a Commencement Committee member. She’s also the reigning Marysville Strawberry Festival Queen, who has volunteered for the “Miracle on State Avenue” Christmas program and Operation Marysville Community Christmas for two years each.

Stokes has played football at Marysville-Pilchuck High School from 2006-2009 and basketball since 2007, earning varsity and letter awards in both. He’s also volunteered as a Big Buddy and for both the Special Needs Prom and the Pinewood Elementary Outdoor Camp.

Hintze has served as both public relations and recognition chairs for ASB, in addition to chairing Care Week and the Special Needs Prom. She’s served as a Youth Group president for four years, and interned in public relations and marketing with the DLR Group.

Stokes’ other volunteer work includes flood relief work in Granite Falls, Centralia and Gulfport, Miss., the latter in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. His youth group mission trips with the Marysville United Methodist Church have included repairing homes in rural Idaho, and volunteering at an orphanage in Nicaragua and a food bank and homeless shelter in San Francisco. His other work on behalf of the homeless has included serving meals at the Everett Gospel Mission and as part of Operation Night Watch in Seattle.
