MARYSVILLE – The Marysville Fire District and Domino’s Pizza are teaming up to encourage area residents to check the batteries in their smoke alarms when they change their clocks.

Marysville firefighters will help Domino’s Pizza deliver orders in the Marysville area during the first few days of Daylight Savings Time, March 15-17.

Firefighters arriving in their fire engines will visit at least one Domino’s customer per night, between the hours of 6-8 p.m. At each house they visit, they will test the smoke alarms to ensure the alarms are working. If all the smoke alarms are working, Domino’s Pizza will provide the home a certificate for their next pizza order for free, up to a $20 maximum. If the alarms aren’t working, firefighters will install new ones or replace their batteries.

Smoke alarms should be installed in each sleeping room of a home, outside each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms, and on each additional story of the home, including basements.

“Oftentimes, people don’t know how old their smoke alarms are, or if they’re still functioning properly or at all,” Marysville Fire Chief Greg Corn said. “That lack of awareness can have deadly consequences. Nearly two-thirds of all home fire deaths result from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. By providing an early warning and critical extra seconds to escape, smoke alarms double a family’s chance of getting out of a home fire alive, but only if they work.”
