MARYSVILLE Perhaps somewhat predictably, hobbies and free time are two things the Marysville-Pilchuck High School students of the month for November dont have in abundance.
Brandon Nobach, 18, and Nicole Peterson, 17, are the latest Marysville high seniors honored by the Marysville Soroptimists and Kiwanis.
Asked about hobbies outside school, Nobach could only mention running. But hes a member of the high school track team and a past president of the school Running Club.
As for Peterson, she is a captain on the girls varsity basketball team and has a part-time job. She quickly states she really has no such thing as free time.
Im pretty busy with basketball, school and my job, Peterson said.
Besides the track team and running club, Nobachs resume includes a 3.8 GPA, membership in the National Honor Society, the Spanish Club and the Senior Cabinet, on which he serves as Senior Fun Night Chairperson, As such, Nobach will have a direct hand in planning activities for that evening.
Outside of school, Nobach does find time to volunteer with the Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Marysville. He has spent time in Costa Rica twice, essentially doing missionary work, helping to build homes.
It was incredibly hard work, but it was fun, Nobach said.
For the future, Nobach hopes to attend Warner Pacific College and, inspired by two Marysville-Pilchuck teachers, wants to become a math instructor himself.
Like Nobach, Peterson sports a 3.8 GPA and is likewise a member of the National Honor Society. Besides basketball, she also has played volleyball and ran track. Outside of athletics, she is the layout editor of the school newspaper.
Peterson also has been involved with the schools Winter Sports Assembly and the Oktoberfest. You Gotta Love This Place is a program aimed at cleaning up and polishing Marysvilles high school and students must be invited to attend. Both Nobach and Peterson are past participants.
For the future, Paterson wants to attend either San Diego State University or the University of Oregon. She wants to major in accounting, with thoughts of becoming a CPA. Why?
I dont know, she said. I just really like math. It just seems like the perfect job for me.
Nobach is the son of Kenneth and Kimberly Nobach of Marysville. Petersons parents are Brion and Lynda Peterson, also of Marysville.
