Thats what Dan Callaghan did, but no, he was stone cold sober. Just like the time he hung the tree from the ceiling last year.
The Marysville man likes to do some decidedly unorthodox things with the Christmas tree each year, and this season was no exception. He took the familys artificial tree, sawed it in half and hung it on either side of the living room window. Nutcrackers on either side of the pane are pulling on ropes, making it look like a tug of war on a grand scale.
He said it always makes him laugh to figure out new ways to put a spin on the old time celebrations. Having the tree go through the window is just the latest installment of his holiday series. Yes, the kids are grown, but everybody always gets a big kick when they see what dads done next, he said. Holiday gatherings at his house next to Jennings Park are like no others, he freely admits.
Were always doing something different, Callaghan laughed.
Last year we hung our tree upside down from ceiling. And we do strange things in the summertime too, said his wife Megan.
Christmas and Halloween seem to bring out their most creative ideas; Easter is celebrated in state parks, so presumably the Easter bunny is safe. The current decor has gotten lots of comments from neighbors, who say they like their creativity.
If you want to see their creation for your self, the Callaghans live at 7005 55th Avenue NE.
