EVERETT — Three Marysville-area artists — James Madison, Susie Howell and Judy Zugish — and Arlington artist Helen Lueken have been accepted to show their work in Art of the Garden, an annual show presented by the Arts Council of Snohomish County.
ARLINGTON — Along with more than 70 vendors on the new Olympic Avenue, new and familiar faces will be featured at the Arlington Street Fair July 11, 12 and 13.
A 30-page guide to the Silvana Fair is now available at the post office and various locations around north Snohomish County. The fair is in downtown Silvana 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 26. Entries are due July 15. For information call 360-652-0587.
ARLINGTON — The Fourth of July in Arlington begins with Pancakes in the Park at 7 a.m., in Haller Park, when registration for the Pedal, Paddle, Puff runs from 8 – 9 a.m. until the race starts at 10:30 a.m. The Pedal, Paddle, Puff triathlon begins at Haller Park with the bicyclists riding up river to River Meadows County Park on Jordan Road. The paddlers in canoes and kayaks then proceed down stream back to Haller Park, where they hand the baton to the runners (a.k.a. puffers). The runners head east on Burke Street to Twin Rivers Park and back to Haller Park.

It all started a couple of months ago when one of my salesmen came by the nursery for his weekly sales call. Among other things he had a special going on in his bird department and since I had been thinking about adding a couple more feeders around the joint I sat down and listened to his spiel. By the time he was done I had ordered four more feeders, 100 pounds of special seed and three cases of suet (36 cakes). I figured I was good to go for at least a month.

The artist who created the “Overhead Underfoot” works on display in the Arlington City Council Chambers, Kathryn Glowen is always coming up with some new idea. This past year, she spent all winter sewing “yoyos” out of vintage silk ties and instead of using them on a pillow or a quilt like most people, she assembled the little puckered wads of silk into circles and various patterns on paper and added some paint in a body of work she calls “Wonder/Allotment Gardens.”
Normally, most of us think of June as summer. After all, June is when our kids go on summer vacation. June also contains the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. In fact, after June 21, the days actually start getting shorter (now there’s a depressing thought). So the feeling that June should be summer is fairly normal. Except that in the northwest, summer really doesn’t start until July (some would say July 5th).

Carina Green, Shelby Southey and Alexa Soriano are among the talented singers who have auditioned for the Arlington Street Fair’s Arlington Idol contest, but more are welcome, according to organizer Kara Keating, of Movement Arts yoga and dance studio. Movement Arts is the sponsor of the $150 cash prize that will go to the winner of the contest which is providing entertainment at the street fair this year. Pre-screened contestants will compete starting at 6 p.m., Friday, July 11 in the gazebo at Legion Park.
