MARYSVILLE — In keeping with this year’s theme of “Berrywood,” the 2011 Marysville Strawberry Festival Fashion Show employed local luminaries as models for its outfits.

According to Maryfest Vice President Elect Bobbi Young, the June 14 Fashion Show’s lineup of local celebrities drew an estimated 260 attendees to its annual location at Leifer Manor.

“That’s an increase of between 50 percent to 75 percent from last year,” Young said.

Sponsors of the event include the local Walmart Supercenter, North County Outlook, Union/Frontier Bank, Seattle Premium Outlets and Leifer Manor.

The Walmart Supercenter was joined in donating to the event by Details Home Decor & Gifts, Attic Secrets Tea Room, Linda’s Adult Family Home, Locals Espresso, Monica Berginc Photography, Curves, Cindy Chavez of Mary Kay Cosmetics, and Desert Sun Tanning Salon.

Longtime Third Street merchants Mary Kirkland and Darlene Scott modeled appropriately summery ensembles from the Fashion Bug in Marysville, while Marysville Parks and Recreation Director Jim Ballew and City Council member Carmen Rasmussen sported casual on-the-go attire from Eddie Bauer at the Seattle Premium Outlets in Tulalip.

Marysville Soroptimists Rosie Reynaud and Renae James were cheerful in their colorful outfits from JCPenney, while Pastor Nick Baumgart, of the Marysville First Assembly of God Church, struck a pose for the cameras in his sharp Calvin Klein shirt, tie and slacks.

Perhaps none of the models, though, looked more dapper than Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring, who donned a top hat and tails from the Marysville Tux Shop to escort Donna Leifer.

“We were all just playing it by ear,” said Kirkland, owner of Hilton Pharmacy, of the models’ preparations. “It was a really fun experience because all the models either knew, or knew of, each other. I don’t think any of us had ever done this before, except for Darlene [Scott].”

“It was just fun to be with people that way again,” said Scott, owner of Carr’s Hardware. “This Fashion Show was beautifully coordinated.”
