Marysville-Pilchuck choirs seek sponsors for songs

MARYSVILLE — The Marysville-Pilchuck Choirs’ last concert of the school year is set for June 3 at 7 p.m. in the M-PHS auditorium, but even though there’s no cost to attend, it still needs some community support for the show to go on.

“Along with the high standards of performance to which we hold our ensembles, the M-P Choral Department is known for a commitment to the highest quality artistic literature available, and our musicians take pride in that goal,” Choral Director Jeff Tillinghast said. “In addition, it is our position to respect the importance of copyright laws and intellectual property rights by not photocopying music. We teach our students that pirating CDs and MP3s is illegal, and purchasing each copy of our sheet music directly holds our program to that same high standard.”

To that end, Tillinghast hopes community members will take part in the M-P Choirs’ “Sponsor a Song” program. Donors can log onto the website for the choirs’ chief music supplier at www.jwpepper.com/sheet-music/musiclist.jsp and purchase the sheet music that the choirs need, and have it sent directly to them.

Donations are tax-deductible and may be accepted as “A gift of …” or “In honor of …” or can even be anonymous. They will be marked in the concert programs and on the covers of the physical sheet music, to be stored in the choirs’ library for future use.

“Your gift will benefit not only our current musicians, but generations of singers to follow them,” Tillinghast said. “Our list is under the name ‘Marysville Choirs,’ without quotes.”

Some pieces start for as little as $30, and donors may purchase however many copies of the larger pieces as they can provide.

The Men’s Choir needs 25 copies of the “Pirate Song,” while the Treble Choir needs 60 copies each of “Woodriver” and “The Pelican,” as well as 40 copies of “Gate Gate.” The Chamber Choir needs 15 copies of “Contre Qui Rose” and 18 copies of “Where Your Bare Foot Walks,” while all the choirs together need 80 copies of “Hope, Faith, Life, Love.”
