As I sit in my office, I am looking out at the beautiful blue sky and the sun is shining so bright, I can’t help but think of “Summer.” Summer arrives on June 20, with it also comes all types of community activities. This letter is in reference to one of those longstanding events and one in particular which has brought so much enjoyment to so many, and it may very well be no more unless people get involved.
MARYSVILLE — Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring recently honored Dan Moore as the Volunteer of the Month for March of this year, in recognition of Moore’s tireless efforts as a volunteer coach in the city of Marysville’s Parks and Recreation Department youth basketball program.
MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Arts Council’s inaugural “It’s Raining Art” event is set to showcase the work of local artists from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 26.

MARYSVILLE — The Marysville-Pilchuck High School Drama Club invites the community to attend its spring musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” in the M-PHS auditorium starting at 7 p.m. on April 26, 27 and 28, as well as on May 3 and 4. An additional performance will kick off at 10 p.m. on April 28.
MARYSVILLE — On Saturday, April 28, the Marysville YMCA will join all four other Snohomish County YMCAs in celebrating Healthy Kids Day with a free community event designed to help families find fun through active play and educational opportunities, to improve health and well-being.
QUIL CEDA VILLAGE — On Sunday, April 22, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a bomb threat at the Walmart store located in the 8900 block of Quil Ceda Boulevard in Tulalip.
MARYSVILLE — The next meeting of the Marysville Aktion Club is scheduled for Friday, April 27, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Marysville YMCA, located at 6420 60th Dr. NE. The Marysville Aktion Club is a community service group for adult citizens, 18 years and over, living with disabilities.
MARYSVILLE — Although Marysville Police Officer Derek Carlile remains on paid administrative leave, Snohomish County Sheriff’s detectives have concluded their investigation into the shooting death of his 7-year-old daughter, Jenna, and forwarded it to the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, April 18, for review.
It’s encouraging to see the state’s unemployment rate drop to 8.2 percent in February. That’s down almost a full percentage point from February 2011 when unemployment was at 9.1 percent. It demonstrates our state’s economy is slowly showing signs of recovery.
Seattle Slam, Washington’s nonprofit wheelchair rugby team, hosted a four-hour informational event and competition in the Marysville YMCA gymnasium on April 15.
