Heritage heroes honored by MSD school board

The Tulalip Heritage High School basketball team was honored by the Marysville School District Board of Directors at their March 5 meeting, drawing accolades from board and tribal members

The Tulalip Heritage High School basketball team was honored by the Marysville School District Board of Directors at their March 5 meeting, drawing accolades from board and tribal members. After an 0-2 start, the Hawks went on to win 18 straight games, only to face a first-round playoff upset to Lummi High School. They finished in second place at state, class 1B, losing in the title game to Sunnyside Christian. They went to state and they left a mark, district athletic director Greg Erickson. They were poised, they were focused, when they played they were incredibly unselfish. They passed the ball. Erickson said the talked on the phone with coach Leon Enick when he was at state championships, recalling the coach said Were living a dream, were flying on a cloud and Im totally exhausted. Enick told the board the teams success was a tribute to the support of the tribal community and thanked his teams peers and other coaches in the league. Excellent work guys, you represented us, said board president Michael Kundu.
