Tomahawks trounce Everett 4-0

With matches against Stanwood and Lake Stevens looming on the schedule, the M-P soccer teams 4-0 trouncing of winless Everett April 14 concluded a two-week schedule of Arlington, Oak Harbor and the Seagulls, who combine for three wins and nine points this season.
Goalkeepers Kaleb Kuehn and Jake Newman combined for the shutout, each tending a half.
On offense, sophomore Elwood Sevon struck first for the Tomahawks, finding the net about 15 minutes into the game. Senior forward Sean Wolfe made it 2-0 not long after, and sophomore midfielder Seth Jones penetrated the Seagull defense late in the first period for a 3-0 halftime score.
Late in the second period, junior forward Ryan Wilson made it four for the Tomahawks.
For Wolfe, Jones and Wilson, it was their first goals of the season, a milestone that did not go unrecognized by head coach Kyle Suits.
Defensively, Clayton West and Chad Deaver were really solid, Suits added. David Hinckley and Jesse Masten played really well just played tough defensively. Anytime you get a shutout, good things happen defensively.
As the Wesco division playoff scenario is beginning to take shape, the M-P boys find themselves facing serious competition in the next four games. With the top four teams from Wesco North and Wesco South eligible for playoff berths, M-P must maintain or gain on its half-game lead over Stanwood for fourth place in Wesco North.
A 2-0 loss to district leader Snohomish April 10 gave the 6-4 Tomahawks a taste of what they can look forward to as they face Stanwood (5-4-1) April 17, Lake Stevens (8-1) April 19, Monroe (4-5-1) April 21 and Cascade (7-3) April 27.
Theyre all potentially playoff games. Were all in the hunt. This week will make us or break us. If we win all three, well be in a great place for the playoff scenario, Suits said.
