MG gets by Lynnwood; M-P demolishes Meadowdale

MARYSVILLE – Chase Showatter came off the bench in the second quarter to ignite the Chargers and freshman standout Malakai Knight scored 23 points to lead Marysville Getchell to a 62-54 win over Lynnwood Tuesday night.

Both teams are now 7-11, 3-7 in the Wesco 3A North.

Showatter came off the bench with 4:22 left in the half, hit two free throws, a 3 and later drove to the hoop for a bucket to help give the home team the lead after trailing 19-18. The visitors didn’t score for about three minutes on that run as the Chargers went up 29-19 with 2:34 left in the half. Sophomore Cameron Stordahl hit a bucket and scored again on a cross-court assist from sophomore Ethan Jackson, Knight scored on a put-back after grabbing an offensive board and scored again after a steal, and Stordahl tossed almost a full-court pass to Knight for another basket after breaking the Royals’ press.

The smaller and quicker Royals pressed much of the game full court, causing the home team turnover problems in the early going. The teams traded baskets in the first quarter. Knight scored a 3 after a long pass from Stordahl, Ian Roskelley hit a couple of shots, and Knight scored after a steal. Junior Matt Thomas scored off an inbounds play at the buzzer to give MG the lead after one period 14-13.

Stordahl ended up with 12 in the game with Thomas and Showattter getting 9 points each. Roskelley had 5 and Jackson 4.

Jerry Boston led the Royals with 18 points.

In a game between two upper-level teams in the Wesco North, Marysville-Pilchuck had a surprisingly easy time whipping Meadowdale 75-36.

M-P improved to 15-3, 9-1 in league, while the Mavericks fell to 9-9, 5-5 in league.

Meadowdale just could not score off the Tomahawk defense, falling behind 14-4 after one period and 37-12 at halftime.

Junior RaeQuan Battle practically scored at will in the third period, as the Mavericks left the lane open for him to lay down two dunks. He had eight of his game-high 19 that quarter.

Senior Josiah Gould hit two buckets near the end to put the home team up 59-25 after three. Gould dominated the fourth quarter five of his 13 points.

Luke Dobler added 13, Aaron Kalab had 9, Kobe Baumann and Corbin Sims contributed 8 each, T.J. Severn hit a 3 and Brady Phelps hit for 2.

Daniel Barhoum had 9 for the Mavs.
