Sophomore standout Josie Stupey scored 15 points to lead the Arlington Eagles girls basketball team to a 40-38 win over Snohomish Feb. 2.
Her last bucket came with seven minutes left in the game. The Eagle girls didn’t score after that. But the Panthers made just 13 of 35 free throws in the game to help the Eagle cause.
Other Eagle scoring: Hailey Hiatt 9, Sierra Scheppele 5, Keira Marsh 4, Abbey Hassing 3 and with 2 each Makenzie Gage and Jordan Bartlow.
Meanwhile, MG trounced Oak Harbor 63-35.
Mikail Montez scored 17 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, and Kortney Crane added 12 points to lead the Chargers. Other scoring: Maddy Grandbois and Sydney Norton 9 each; with 4 apiece Kiki Green, Madison Hagglund and Alexus Atkins; Brionna Palm with 3 and Katie Powell 1.
In Northwest 2A, it was Lynden Christian 76, Lakewood 21.
In Wesco 3A Jan. 31, it was Everett 74, Marysville-Pilchuck 41.
Marysville-Pilchuck won the 3A North Sub-Regional Tournament at Everett over the weekend with 264 points.
Arlington placed second with 214 with Marysville Getchell right behind in third with 212.
The Tomahawks had three champs, the Chargers two, and the Eagles one. The Tommies advance nine, and the Eagles eight to regionals with the Chargers four.
All four of the top finishers in each weight class advance to regionals at 10 a.m. Feb. 9 at Snohomish High School. Placers there go to state.
At 106 pounds, Daniel Heiss of Arlington was the champion, with fellow freshman teammate Casten Tollenaar winning the third-place match, both by decision.
At 113 pounds, Dorian Tollenaar of Arlington lost 4-2 to place second.
At 120 pounds, Tanner Lauzon (MP) won by decision to place first.
At 126 pounds, junior Austin Davis (MP) placed second.
At 132 pounds, M-P’s Nick Cantu lost in the finals 6-4. Arlington’s Caleb Abenroth was fourth.
At 138 pounds, Trey Padgett (MG) won by pin to take that title.
At 145 pounds, M-P’s Isaiah Galindo won the title with a 2-1 decision.
At 152 pounds, Sam Rush of Arlington lost by injury default, placing fourth.
At 160 pounds, Kristian Fairbanks of Arlington was pinned to place second. Ahmad Humoud of M-P lost 5-2 to place fourth.
At 170 pounds, Cayden White of M-P pinned Levi Wiseman of Arlington in 1:11 in the title match. Junior Mauro Bejar of M-P won by a 9-3 decision to place third.
At 182 pounds, Edgar Duenas of MG was pinned to take second. Cole Hahn of Arlington lost 20-11 to finish fourth.
At 195 pounds, M-G’s Cheron Smith won by pin in 2:27 to take first. At 220 pounds, Junior Ikaika Naweli (MP) won by pin to take third.
At 285 pounds, Jeff Roullier of M-P finished second, losing the final 7-3. Erick Duenes of (MG) was third after winning by pin in 2:57.
In the 3A meet at North Creek High School, Arlington’s girls placed second with 184 pounds. MG was 14th with 32 and M-P tied for 15th with 26.
The Eagles had two champions and qualified five others for regionals. Both the Tommies and Chargers qualified one for regionals Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. at Sedro-Woolley.
At 105 pounds, Vivian Potong (Arlington) was the champion, winning the final by pin in 5:12. At 115 pounds, Kaitlan Flick (Marysville Getchell) was third with a 4-3 decision.
At 120 pounds, Tailer Cochran (Arlington) was the champion with an 8-1 victory.
At 125 pounds, Chelsey Goeden (Marysville Pilchuck) lost 13-5 to place second.
At 135 pounds, Zoe Pittson (Arlington) won by pin in 44 seconds to place third.
At 140 pounds, Kylie Hinds (Arlington) won 2-0 to finish third.
At 170 pounds, Souzanna Crew (Arlington) was pinned in 28 seconds, but still placed fourth. At 190 pounds, Malia Wayman (Arlington) was pinned in 4:34 to place fourth.
And at 235 pounds, Alyson Ellingson (Arlington) lost a 4-2 decision to finish fourth.
Meanwhile, Lakewood placed third in the North Sub-Regional Tournament at Bellingham over the weekend, and had three individual champions and will advance five to regionals in Sedro-Woolley.
Cassidy O’Hara was the champion at 125 pounds winning a 5-4 decision.
Teammate Olivia Poulton pinned another teammate, Rhyleeann Wenberger, for the crown at 135 pounds.
And another Cougar, Elizbeth Aleo at 235 pounds, also won a title with a pin.
Third and fourth place also advance to regionals.
At 115 pounds, Torrie Balckwood won by injury default to place third.
Marysville-Pilchuck outscored visiting Everett 75-43 Feb. 1.
Five Tomahawks scored in double figures with RaeQuan Battle and Cameron Stordahl getting 12 each, Luke Dobler and Aaron Kalab 11, and T.J. Severn scored 10. Other M-P scoring: Alec Jones-Smith 8, Ethan Jackson 6, Treven Southard 3 and Brady Phelps 2.
Marysville Getchell got by Oak Harbor 53-50.
In Snohomish, Arlington routed the home team 63-45. The Eagles actually trailed after one period, but a 19-7 outburst in the third quarter iced the win.
Josh Gutierrez’s 19 points, Griffin Gardoski’s 15 and Anthony Whitis’s 14 led the way, followed by Caden Smith with 6, Will Abram 5 and Ethan Martin 2.
Meanwhile, sophomore Shae Dixon scored a season-high 21 points in Lakewood’s 82-53 loss to defending 2A state champion Lynden Christian Jan. 31.
Lakewood fell to 12-8 while the visitors improved to 20-0.
Kaiden Harrison tallied 10, while leading scorer Alex Jensen was held to 2. Other Cougar scoring: Jackson Schultz 6, Ethan Saxton 5, Sergiy Nelson 4, Spencer Neiffer 3 and Andy Milloy 2.
